Digital Exercises

It has been a while since I have drawn something digitally with all of my studies, so I have decided recently to hone my digital skills on the tablet and create some artwork that would be simple, yet allow me some exercise. These exercises were not planned conceptually to look like this, I just let my imagination go and created these spheres that allow me to explore various styles in terms of materials and textures.

New Year’s Eve Promotional Video

Rendered and composited in Blender 2.61. The earth is a sphere with textures applied. Lens flare is added in the compositor.

Intro Animation

Animation made and composited in Blender. Sounds were edited in FL Studio.
Animation consists of physics simulations, particle physics, smoke simulations, and compositing (color correction, lens distortion, chromatic aberration, defocus). The project presented several problems such as failure to incorporate consistent motion blur (everything was done correctly but the motion blur calculations gave horrid results), and shimmering. Also the shattering effect had some problems. I used boids physics as it gave me the best shattering effect, but the landing of the shattered pieces presented a big problem. Despite all the difficulties the overall look is very nice, the project is somewhat of a success☺.

Red Planet

This is a test render based off of Porter Nielsen’s super awesome BlenderCookie tutorial on how to create scenes from space. I didn’t have time to do anything advanced, but this looks cool anyways☺
